Jean Desprez used the purest, most expensive natural
ingredients-more than 300 of them-when he composed his
masterpiece Bal a Versailles in 1961. For the past decade,
this original formula has been held in safekeeping by the
perfumers at Robertet in France. They have collected and
blended the original ingredients, and the result is a Bal
a Versailles as majestic as when Jean Desprez first
created it.
Jean Desprez, creator of Bal a Versailles, was born into
a dynasty of French perfurmers, the great grandson of
the founder of the renowned House of Millot, He
apprenticed with some of the finest perfumers of the
age, including the legendary Givaudan and Marius reboul
of Charadan. In 1922, at age 24, he became the chief
perfumer at Millot. Upon the death of his father Henri
in 1936, Desprez founded his own firm in the 8th
arrondissement of Paris at 17 Rue de la Paix.
